There are many new gated communities in Sosua and Cabarete and many more being planned for future development. There is a wide range of choices and prices. There are million dollar homes and very reasonably priced condos for around $70,000 U.S dollars.

It is true that the big corporate investors are buying property in the Dominican Republic and new upscale developments are being planned or are under construction right now! The big investors and analysts believe demand for holiday related property and retirement homes will continue to grow over the next decade even in a bad U.S. housing market. Current Economic, social, political and environmental trends point to the continued success of the Dominican Republic as a popular destination for investors that desire second homes. Experts also believe that the Dominican Republic will become a hot spot for American retirees (baby boomers) because of the lower cost of living, no taxes on homes valued under 150K and the fact that they can avoid the high expense of rest homes by hiring a full time professional Dominican staff to care for them in their old age?

I have heard developers, investors and local analysts say there has never been a better time than now to buy real estate in the Dominican Republic. Why? I think because the prices are very low compared to other islands in the Caribbean. But I also think that there are even better buys in places like Florida right now. However, buying in Florida is not what every investor and retiree wants! There is still the issue of very high property taxes and home insurance. Plus, medical costs and nursing care is much higher than the Dominican Republic. What’s your opinion?

There are many people who are tired of the U.S. politics and just want a new life! What do you think? How does the Dominican Republic compare to the United States and other islands in the Caribbean? A lot of people are saying that there are other beautiful places in the Caribbean but not as inexpensive or offering so much for both the investor and retiree as Sosua real estate.
